It is holiday time of year again. The joy that the season brings is solely a function of spending time with family and friends. My family has celebrated Thanksgiving for the past 20 years and while I haven’t attended every year, there is always a turkey and lately there have been at least 30 guests scattered throughout the house enjoying food and drinks.
As our family has grown, the season does make for tight quarters as there are few roofs comfortable for 7 adults and 3 children. Logistics can be equally challenging with trips to the airport, rental cars, trips to the grocery store, and black Friday shopping.
There have been a few technical developments that have relieved some worries during the holiday season. On-line check in can make the airport less daunting. Personal media players do a good job of entertaining adults and kids alike in flight.
On the ground it is important to remember the project charter. We want to nurture familial relationships and ensure that friendships remain friendships rather than becoming long lost friendships. While we may have mini-agendas like capturing family history, it is important to remember that these are secondary.
Enjoy the rest of the season and if you find yourself alone, don’t despair a trip through the old photos and a few phone calls can mark the season as well.
